The fact is, the NT is, in many respects, just as riddled with pagan ideas (due to a lot of Roman influences), or even more, than the OT. The whole business of God impregnating a virgin, having a godlike son on earth, the son dying, being reborn, going up to heaven, an anti-god in the form of a devil in hell, et al, is a religious iconography that would have been very familiar to the pagans of that time.
